When discussing hate and suffering, it is important to realize that suffering is increased when hate begins to take root in us. These two evils are like handmaidens, working together to make our lives more difficult. The danger is that we don't teach ourselves to hate in the right way. God hates to the point of hot displeasure, but His hatred is purposed to advance the peace and tranquility of the world. Hate is simply a desire fulfilled to defend those who are helpless. There are two motives for making a better world: love and godly hate.Love is a desire for others to be happy and free from suffering. Hate is a desire for others to suffer because we believe that their suffering will end if they are cursed. These two motivations create a world that is first a metaphysical idea of what it will be like without sin. The Bible not only teaches hope in the future where there is no more pain, but it also gives us glimpses of that future glory, causing us to experience joy in the meantime. This vision of the future helps us to endure the pain and suffering of the present, knowing that one day all will be made right. The belief that it is morally right to desire the end of suffering for all beings, is known as "godly hate." This desire is eternal and, once fulfilled, will end all suffering in the world. As beings who exist between this world and the eternal world, it is our design to think, feel, and desire what God's will is. Therefore, to hate like God is to fulfill our design. If we try to ignore the hate that we feel, it will be like inviting destruction upon ourselves. God provides us with a way to express our hate, so that we can avoid destruction. He has given us a desire to rejoice when we see the law finally prevail over those who live in destruction. We avoid destruction by wishing a curse upon it, as if we were not touching that unclean thing. With this focus, God consumes our hate and we begin to live in reality.
