The exclusion of boasting in relation to salvation can be attributed to the understanding that salvation is solely by grace. If human effort were to play a role in salvation, it would imply that we have something to contribute, giving us grounds for boasting. Therefore, boasting not only suggests a belief in deserving salvation, but also portrays salvation as a means to enforce obedience. We proudly proclaim our responsibility for personal growth and change. By suggesting that our actions contribute to our salvation, we imply that God must approve of our efforts. While not overt boasting, this mindset reflects a sense of pride in our ability to earn acceptance from God.
The scripture delineates between individuals who exhibit pride and those who are chosen and grapple with feelings of arrogance. A proud individual believes they possess the capability to attain salvation or maintain their salvation. The biblical text characterizes all individuals as inherently inclined towards spirituality, as God has instilled in each person a longing for perfection. Every individual possesses a soul, manifested through their capacity for introspection, cognition, and foresight. Consequently, every individual either reflects the likeness of Christ or adheres to a distorted representation. Ultimately, individuals either devote themselves to the worship of God or venerate false deities.
According to the biblical teachings, individuals who worship false idols are described as being arrogant, immoral, or displaying a disdain for God. These proud individuals are destined for divine judgment and ultimate destruction. They have no inclination to contemplate the existence of God, instead questioning His presence within their hearts. Consequently, they fashion their own deities, essentially elevating themselves to a godlike status. By rejecting belief in God, they actively suppress His influence and demonstrate their animosity towards Him by utilizing their authority to disrupt society. Any individual who refuses to submit to God's authority is prone to engage in destructive behavior. It is important to note that no one achieves success in isolation; they often achieve their goals at the expense of others, wrongfully claiming what rightfully belongs to God for their personal gain.
