The requirement for a sinner to meet God's just demands of His law is an important topic to discuss. If we lower our responsibility to God as law breakers, then we will naturally make new rules for our children so they will be acceptable before God because we are assured that we believe in God. It's easy for us to conclude that because the people who are closest to us have a genuine faith—i.e., we actually read our Bibles, pray, and enjoy God—that it includes everyone in the family. It is so easy for us to rely on someone else's faith. For example, in a family setting. Job may not have taken anything for granted, but it is clear that he prayed more fervently for his sons knowing how difficult it would be to make them Christians, as they were known to be the most righteous people on earth at that time. We often mistakenly assume that salvation is a one-time event, rather than a lifelong journey. It is important that we focus on our own personal relationship with God as Father, rather than solely on our children's character issues. We may think that our appearance to them is the most important factor in their salvation, but this is not necessarily the case. We must live before them as an example of what it means to enjoy and know God as Father, regardless of how they appear to be faithless. We must understand that faith is something that is a byproduct of another person's work and not ours. In a sense, it is like a cold. They will catch it eventually. It is difficult to take the word of God and make it applicable to our lives, especially when it comes to our families. It is easy to read a scripture and use it to change our family, but it is much more difficult to actually spend time studying it and allowing it to change the way we think and act towards our families. In my experience, I find that chanting psalms in my home is a great way to express joy and connect with my family. I often get quite expressive when doing this, and my kids and wife are always supportive. Its easy for us to express our joy for each other in this way.It is my belief that our society is afflicted by a very serious disease: a lack of respect for other people's religious beliefs. We often view other people's beliefs as something to be ridiculed or ignored, instead of something to be respected. This is a major problem, because it means that we are not open to hearing other people's perspectives on life, and we are not able to learn from them. Christ himself said that we should love our neighbor as ourselves, but too often, we treat our neighbors with contempt instead of love.
