The Bible sees the health of a nation as a reflection of the spiritual health of its citizens. When the nation begins to decline, it has a negative impact on the spiritual well-being of its people. In some ways, we are all living in a process of redemption, depending on how strong the principles of the Bible are in practice. So we should not be overly confident in one person's ability to affect the spiritual well-being of another, but we must understand that, as a nation goes into trusting in its own understanding of life, the focus on the general welfare will also increase, which is supposed to be the road to seeing salvation by the God of the Bible. There seems to be a disconnection between the ideals we as a nation and city should be following and the way the world actually operates. This disconnection is due to the fact that we are becoming reliant on our own salvation, rather than trusting in the providence of God. This reliance on our own salvation comes from the lack of distinction between national freedom and freedom from salvation. The more we stray from the ways of God expressed through His laws, the less personal potential we have to be truly free. The gospel is the only way to experience true freedom. It is the only source of hope that can provide relief in the midst of great pain and suffering. It is the only control that can enable us to make choices that affect our lives and the lives of others. The gospel brings us to a Personal God who has the only answer to our deepest personal needs. This is the only way to live a life that is truly fulfilling and satisfying. There are many ways to help people, but relying purely on impersonal methods leaves people creating their own worlds based on their own desires and needs. The gospel is the only real message that really gets to the heart of people's needs and hearts. It is the most personal cry of people who are hopeless and need salvation. God has made it so that unless we find all of our confidence in His ability to save the most hopeless people in the time of need, there is no real hope since people cannot get to the real causes by offering something good. Only God can meet that need in order to experience true freedom.
