The bible contains a wealth of spiritual truths that can be applied to our lives in order to help us live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. However, many people tend to divide the bible up into small, manageable pieces that they can easily follow, without really understanding the deeper spiritual truths contained within. I have always questioned this approach, as I believe that the true power of the bible lies in its ability to help us transform our lives, not just provide us with a set of principles to follow.The bible can be seen as a tool for understanding spiritual truths. The more we use it, we can develop our understanding. The analogy of milk for babies and meat for those who are more spiritually developed is often used to describe how the bible should be interpreted - milk being for those who are just starting out, and meat for those who have developed their understanding. This is because the bible describes the total man - both the physical and the metaphysical. As we have heaven in our minds, we should also have a picture of the metaphysical part of man. This is how the narrative in the Old Testament is to be understood - as a history of redemption.When studying the descriptions of heaven found in the Bible, it is important to consider the context of the entire scripture. Because the Bible does not change in its use of language, we can trust that the descriptions of heaven are accurate.All the language used in the Bible is Trinitarian, so it is reasonable to conclude that the description of heaven found in the Bible is consistent with the character of God. The words are arranged in a way that they are connected and form a coherent whole, meaning that we can rely on the Bible as a whole to provide a comprehensive view of what heaven will be like.The Bible provides us with a comprehensive understanding of humanity, both in how we respond to the world around us and in the spiritual aspects of our nature that are not visible to the physical eye. In order to properly interpret the Bible's portrayal of humanity, we must contextualize the vision of heaven within the greater scope of the Bible. Only then will we be able to gain a complete understanding of what it means to be human.So, all the descriptions of God's providence in this world - as He responds from the heavens and as men act according to their nature - point to a Trinitarian explanation that gives us the proper understanding of the purposes in a narrative that may not be directly discussed. The more we have an understanding of all of scripture, the better we will be at interpreting the words of scripture.
