In other words, the people of the Old Testament had a limited understanding of God, and this understanding was often shaped by humanistic factors such as animal sacrifice. The Old Testament God was a faithful and eternal loving God, but that does not mean that those people who were given the understanding of God by the oracles and the decrees had an accurate image of Him. Rather, their understanding was limited by their own human perspective. Now, isn't this what the shadows of a man's mind contain? If the understanding of God is in the daily ritual of an animal sacrifice, then in some ways these men are receiving a very humanistic education of evolution. When looking at societies in which men had multiple wives and sacrificed human flesh on physical altars, it is important to remember that these cultures also expressed their superiority in ways that were often quite primitive and bloodthirsty. I don't think that this kind of behavior is conducive to finding a society that is sharing in all of the common graces and receiving a level of comfort that we enjoy in our society. Instead, these societies are more in line with Animistic societies, rather than modern forms of democracy. when a woman was brought before a priest because she was suspected of committing adultery just at the whims of her husbands suspicion and having to go through the awful experience of drinking the bitter water in order to find out if it possibly was true with the threat that she would be cursed with a disease in the abdomen if true. i would not consider that an acceptable form of justice in this day and age. This is all related to the idea of the perfect man who was revealed in history. This man acted as an example of a kind of society that men should emulate as a matter of moral persuasion, not even necessarily saving knowledge. Now, you would need to be hit on the side of the head with a two by four if you did not see this purpose in making a man good as the end in this progressive revelation of Jesus Christ. Shall I tell you about His Spirit? He alone is the center point of all of history in His presence on this earth as that by which man knows themselves. The purpose of making a man good is to reveal Jesus Christ to the world as the perfect example of morality and ethics. His Spirit is the center of all of history, and by His presence on earth, we come to know ourselves.
