In conclusion, I wanted to add one more point. After the Fall, humans' natural inclination was to find a way to approach God on their own terms. That was the message in making leaves into a covering. "I want to take this into my own hands and do the next right thing." And in fact they were doing exactly what Satan had tempted them to do. Make a way of knowledge outside of the ways of God.Because men are naturally inclined to worship idols, they would not think twice about doing so if an idol was presented to them as a universal savior and pleasurable friend. However, God provides a real solution to men problems, and His way is the only way. This means that God decides how each human experiences reality. The truth is that reality is more than just reading Gods word; it is about following His will. In other words, reality is what God makes it, and we experience it according to His will. Reality can be seen as a manifestation of God's will. This is why the Old Testament is seen as God speaking to man. It is not merely when God speaks from Mount Sinai to Moses, but every word in an Old Testament story is seen as God's message to man. So when we come to the New Testament, Christ does not say that if every man reads the Torah then that man will know Him. No, it is plain that the religious leaders who read more of the Torah had no understanding of God's voice. Because His speaking is Spirit and Word, it is more than an intellectual image of the word--it is a spiritual reality.According to Saint Augustine, Christ speaks to every saint individually in the form of guidance and counsel, in order to show them the way to heaven. This is the reason why we have the particular Psalms - because they are not about the doctrines of grace or the ceremonial law, but about the desires of God's people. Our problem is that we have a natural love for a universal god.We take issue with the belief that a God who is exclusive exists, and would rather suffer under the teachings of men than accept that God says those who do not believe in Him will suffer. We are obstinate and refuse to budge, and would rather suffer than believe in what God says.
