I do not believe that we can view this proclamation of the gospel as a simple statement of the doctrines of Calvinism. There are other factors that need to be taken into account when trying to create a system of Calvinism in our society. In other words, if our Calvinistic society does not contribute to a kind of grace that is different from the Arminian kind of practice, then we are relinquishing ground to this aggressive incorporation of practical theology which could argue against our proselytizing of Calvinism as a main stream practical theology. This is where I think it is important to remember that we should not speak back to God because we believe that He is able to take care of us. We often let ourselves be passive because we believe that God will work things out for our good. When we adopt this understanding, we naturally develop a different attitude towards life. However, if we argue against Calvinism, we need to be cautious not to get too attached to our own beliefs and opinions.I have often wondered why it is that we Calvinists always seem to be the ones giving up ground and thinking that our position of niceness does not make us inferior by being defined as passive, even though we believe with passion that what God says is what God means. If God says that it is not a man's will that determines his salvation, then our position is that we are confident that God has spoken and it is a final word. In a sense, men who deny God's sovereignty will only break themselves against the stone the builders rejected. We should not excommunicate anyone from the church based on their beliefs about Arminianism. However, if we cannot respect our own arguments and beliefs, then how can we respect God? In this way, curses come into play. Because God is absolutely sovereign, we do not need to live as if He is constrained by Arminianism. In other words, God is who we understand Him to be in the context of our understanding of His sovereignty and our authority to uphold these doctrines of grace. He determines these things in a radical way.The religious environment in which we live can have a significant impact on our lives, shaping our beliefs and behaviours. If we have a distorted view of God and humanity, it can adversely affect every aspect of our lives. It's like a virus of pragmatism that makes our worship sickly. This is why there is little gospel assurance felt in our worship and in our relationships. We have become immune to this radical religious experience, but God is not pleased. There are consequences for holding onto theories of human ability. This is why it can be so difficult to maintain our love for God when we are constantly bombarded with temptations from the world – because our relationships with others are often more important to us than our relationship with God. As the Psalmist says, we should be so dedicated to our relationship with God that it consumes all of our other relationships. Even to his own family, he treated them with contempt. His children and those who looked down on him felt the full brunt of this radical difference in how he viewed reality. There are curses that come with this kind of intense spiritual disconnection, and they are incredibly painful. We need to be careful with our Calvinism to ensure that it does not make us complacent in our worship. Worship should be an all-consuming and radical act, and our Calvinism should be a part of that. We should remember that all of God's promises to us are true, and that He has the power to do whatever He wants.
