I have enjoyed watching live performances of plays over the years, and I have found them to be interesting and engaging. Acting is an art form that requires the performer to create an image of the character they are playing in their mind. The goal is to create an illusion that the viewer can believe is real. Acting is a unique skill, because it allows actors to transform themselves into characters they are not naturally like in real life. This is a remarkable accomplishment, and it is something to be appreciated. Actors can create an image that seems to be magical, and this is a talent that is very special.Edwards believes that it is impossible for humans to create a perfect representation of themselves, as this would require duplicating oneself. However, when we look at the Son of God as a perfect representation of the Father, we can see that we are not really ourselves, but rather reflections of God Himself. This idea underscores the importance of depending on God, as we cannot achieve anything on our own. The Trinity is made up of three separate beings, and yet they are of one substance. So the Father can look outside Himself and see the Son. However, I believe that we see the Son from our own perspective, from our own understanding. We are looking at the perfect image of God, from our own limited perspective.Whenever we create an image of Christ that does not accurately reflect His nature, it diminishes Him. This is why Calvin believes that we are little god-makers. Christ really is the only true God-Man, so whenever we imagine Him in a way that He is not, that is an idol in our minds. This is an image that is not true. So I understand it this way: God has revealed Himself through spoken word and spiritual power. And I guess you could say that all of God's words are contained in the Bible, and anything outside of those words are how idols are formed. There is a sense in which trusting in God is the same thing as believing in God Himself. This is why the psalmist says that trusting in God relies on trusting only in His word. The word is a symbol of God Himself, and understanding all the implications of this idea is not necessary for us to know God. The reason we can't mechanically remember all of God's words is because they are more than just the physical ink on the paper. The words are actually Spirit, and a person can know God without having a full understanding of everything God is. Because without the Spirit of God, nobody would be able to understand the concept of God from simply reading His words.I do not believe that we have an idealized image of God in our heads, as this would lead to distrust in someone who has promised to reveal Himself to us. Rather, we trust in someone who has promised to reveal Himself to us because His word is self-attesting. We rely on God's word, not because we understand it ourselves, but because He has proven it to be true in the coming of Jesus Christ. Christ fully accomplished all of His promises, and it is possible for us to struggle in believing them. But Jesus in revealing Himself as the authentic word from heaven will never let us down in His relationship with us because the word is for us. When we read the Bible, we are struck by the intimate connection between God and His people. God speaks to us as a friend would, sharing Himself both in His words and in His actions. This spiritual connection enhances our understanding of God and His purposes for us, even though we may not always see it clearly. Even though we are the temple of God, we still experience difficulty resisting false images – ideas or concepts that are not actually true or that are harmful. But thanks to the Holy Spirit who lives in us, we can overcome these obstacles.
