Anxiety is something that we all battle with. As the apostle says, when we get married we are going to add to our temptation to be anxious. As believers, we are aware of the temptations to over indulge in all of the luxuries of this life. We are also tempted to live as though we have a separate existence as private citizens in which we live in an extremely computerized society were we are encouraged develop loneliness as a way of life. However, because most of our views of our minds in this culture are not really a result of what is going on around us, we tend to miss the struggle by focusing on these cultural traps rather than taking control of our minds by meditation. Each of us possesses the potential to veer away from our initial love for God. When we are born again, we feel a deep sense of liberty, and our spirits are invigorated in such a way that we are conscious of the ways in which the world tries to lure us back into our old habits. However, over time we start to forget our first love and become engrossed in the mundane details of everyday life. This is a common occurrence in churches, where people try to balance their religious responsibilities with the other demands of their lives. We often fail to realize that our inner spiritual lives require constant care and attention.Because we were designed to be totally dependent on God, and because His life is meant to flow to us and through us so that we not only experience salvation at a point in time but are constantly experiencing His presence, we are to keep our eyes fixed on the goal of our faith, which is Christ himself. This is a real struggle, because even as believers we can be pulled away from Christ by things like sin, fear, anxiety, distrust, and a sense of God's disapproval. However, we must remember that Christ is the goal of our faith, and when we keep our eyes on Him we will be able to experience His love and presence in our lives. We use things of this world to keep ourselves from experiencing the sense of loss that we feel as sinners. This loss is of joy, peace, comfort, and kindness. However, if we know that we are very prone to stray from our first love, we will become more active in trying to experience that original, regenerated life. As we begin to long for the peace and joy that we experienced in God, we will begin to increase our experience in sorrow. As we begin to learn more about God in His Word, we will begin to grow in our understanding of Christ's work on our behalf. In doing so, we will come to experience the original, regenerated life that we so desire. As we draw closer to God, we become more curious about Him and His ways. As we learn more about Him, we also become more conscious of our own limitations and shortcomings. This exposure to God's perfection drives home our need for His grace and mercy. Although it can be difficult to find the positive aspect of our own limitations, ultimately we learn that through them we are able to rely on God more fully and take joy in Him. This joy is unlike anything else we could experience in this world. When we start to think about life from an eternal perspective, we see ourselves as more and more dependent on God. We have experienced what it is like to have His Spirit speak peace to our souls in times of anxiety, and to have Him meet our needs in response to our longing for His comfort. So we begin to long for heaven, because we know that just as He has met our needs in our times of need, one day we will have a full and complete experience of Him that will be constant and unimaginable.
