I do not believe that there is a single man alive who does not prioritize one truth over another, even if he professes to be a professional theologian. This is why, no matter who we argue for one truth over another, there is no way that we can break the chain of the doctrines of grace. God is the searching light who will apply the doctrines to the heart of man in a way that is not taught on this earth. There are always a group of people who hear the gospel and, when asked what they were taught, they respond with a totally different reasoning than the other person. But the Holy Spirit and the means of grace overcome the weakness of man.I believe that a lot of our individual frustration comes from the way we accept truths. James says it's natural for us to see the truth in the same way we see our reflection in a mirror, and then forget what we look like once we walk away. This is why all the doctrines of grace are the biggest personal struggle for someone who wants to have a positive outlook on life. It's not just that we reason that we don't look like Christ in the mirror, but it's also that we need to survive and define our steps along this journey. In other words, it starts with one thought that leads to a lack of faith. When we tally up all the thoughts we have in a day, we find that most of them are completely independent of God. This is why the apostle Paul praised the Bereans so highly – because they made a point of saturating themselves in the word of God, which put them in the best position to grow spiritually. We all have a public life in which we focus on serving others as a high priest, but we also have a private life where we entertain ideas and longings that we would never dream of sharing with anyone else. When the supernatural interrupts the natural, it is when we turn to the living God. The apostle Paul tells us that we should focus our thoughts on spiritual matters and things above, rather than on worldly things. We start to change by thinking, feeling, touching, and seeing by illumination a world that is beyond our imagination. We begin to dwell on all of the long term goals. The apostle said that he would much rather go and be with Christ, but he had work to do on this earth. In other words, the apostle was not reasoning based upon the word, but upon this supernatural reality that was his, and was far greater than even his work in the spread of the gospel.
