According to the Bible, there are certain behaviors that a nation should avoid if it does not want to provoke God's anger. This is because when a nation stops following God, it becomes godless and instead starts worshiping false idols. An example of this can be seen in the story of the Tower of Babel, where humans attempted to build a tower to reach the sky and take God's place as ruler. The system which God uses to bring about events in the universe is based on His attributes of justice and righteousness, as well as His desire for symmetry. This system is not something which exists in a specific location, but rather it is representative of how God controls everything that occurs in time. Therefore, God has made the world such that it is unchanging. This means that He has securely established the world and it cannot be altered by humans. This is not just referring to the physical movement of the earth, but rather it is about the existence of a system of justice and fairness on the earth which cannot be overthrown by people. When men become proud, they seek to create disorder. This is because they know that the eternal order is like a clock that is always ticking and moving forward until the end of the world, when Christ comes to judge the living and the dead. Therefore, God is always in conflict with those who seek to rule over others, in order to reorder everything according to His plan. However, God is on His throne and the earth is His footstool. This means that the earth is not distanced from God, but is actually evidence that God rules through all time and space.God has commanding forces in the heavens-above. He will respond to nations that are destructive. There is a natural law-set in place-that was designed to bring men to their knees. When rulers go their own way, God greases the tracks, and allows men to destroy themselves. When men go astray from God, they depart from His law-put in place as boundaries for safety and general respect-and they begin to destroy each other. This is a process that the Bible describes as smoke rising from the earth. The nation becomes a brutal place, and men seek death but God thwarts their efforts. God is always in control, and He will respond to nations that are destructive. There is a law of nature that tends to bring us down, and when we defy it and go our own way, God allows us to destroy ourselves. As a result, we are brought back to Him and His law, which is the only thing that can save us from ourselves.
