Prayer is the continuation of a personal relationship with the Father. So there are no boundaries we are forbidden to cross in our search for God, so we act as if we are trying to be something we are not. Prayer is not just a spiritual exercise. David said he sought God with all his might. This means he spends his time praising God with all his might and seeking God with all his attention, to the point where his body is exhausted.People talk about praying according to God's word. So, they talk about our desires on the one hand and God's will on the other. And, a lot of people divide their prayers into different categories, like petition, confession, etc. But, because we make prayer like going through certain rituals, we never get to the bottom of our anxieties, fears, anger, or experiencing a new spiritual conversion through God's personal touch, as if He was put His hand on the leper and healed him. Some people believe that God is like the people and relationships they know, which can be a problem because we are what we think and what we think is how we adapt to the culture and religious circumstances we face. It can be difficult for us to go outside the box and imagine that God is saying something different than what we've heard before, and we simply assume that God speaks in the same way that we do. It can be difficult for us to imagine that the person who is teaching may not actually understand what he or she is talking about in an experiential way.Could it be that God wants to communicate with us in a way that seems like we are hearing a distinct voice, when in reality what He is doing is speaking to us in a way that is appropriate for our relationship? It might be possible for us to go through years of praying and speaking to God as a highly respected figure, yet never experience true fellowship with Him. Maybe we are assuming that God is like a high priest who agrees to our requests and denies our requests - when in reality He is much greater than this and is able to communicate with us in a way that is appropriate for our relationship. We think prayer is getting acceptance from God because we confess our sins. But we don't know for sure that God is really mad at this particular sin and not another one we don't really understand about ourselves. So we say, "because God knows all of this mysterious things about us," meaning that He knows all of our faults and tendencies. This, we think, settles the matter, because obviously God is not going to change His mind based on how we talk to Him. He's already set in His ways, and so He has very little emotion. In fact, because He's always going to do what He's going to do, He has no emotion at all! Some people believe that God is working like an accountant, meaning that He knows what we would be spoiled if He gave us what we wanted, so obviously He must be withholding something good so that we will learn a lesson. But how do we know that God is thinking like someone who wants us to be responsible and that's why they know best? It can be difficult to say for certain when God has told us what He was thinking about a particular circumstance in our lives, as it might depend on the situation. In any case, it would be arrogant to think that we know better than God what is best for us.If God is greater than anything we could ever imagine, more generous than any father on this earth, more able than any ruler on this earth, more compassionate than the most mature saint that ever walked this earth, than why don't we experience something greater? Maybe we've never really met God, and instead have only imagined Him based on our own experiences. If this is the case, then it's impossible for us to put into words what we've experienced. In that case, we may never truly know God.
