Christ is the eternal Son of God who took on human form. Therefore, He is both fully God and fully human. As God is eternal, He has an eternal standard of law that must be met. If He allowed for leniency in the law, He would not be living up to His own standard of goodness, as He is God and everything is ordered according to His will.In other words, a curve in the law would mean that humans could be gods. But God is really the only one who is good. He cannot accomplish His own purposes through goodness outside of Himself. That is why sin requires eternal punishment. Because the violation of the Law of God is the violation of perfection. This means that the fulfillment of this law must be tantamount to the way God acts in His justice and impartiality. It is clear that human beings are unable to atone for their own sins, as they are not divine. Christ, as the eternal sacrifice, is the only one who could atone for sin and satisfy God's justice. Sin is much more serious than we could ever realize; it is like a tiny black spot on an otherwise beautiful painting. Although it is only a small part of the picture, it stands out and seems to ruin the whole thing. In order to be just, God had to punish His Son to the same extent that He Himself was offended by sin.No one on this earth can fully understand the level of suffering that Christ endured. Christ was fully human, but if He was not also fully God, then He would not have been able to endure the punishment on the cross and the whippings. Any other man would have been killed before he was hung on the cross. God had to punish His Son so severely in order to satisfy the demands of the guilty. The glory of God was manifested on the cross, where He sacrificed Himself for our sins. This act of love and mercy provides us with the freedom to be forgiven, even though we are sinners. The Lamb of God will always bear the marks of His wounds as a reminder to those in hell of His demands for justice, and to the righteous of His provision for salvation.
