Ps 94 7They say, "The LORD does not see;
the God of Jacob pays no heed." 8Take heed, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? 9Does he who implanted the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see? 10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches man lack knowledge? 11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile." In Matthew Jesus teaches that all men can not depend upon food alone to live and prosper in this world. Matt 4 4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "God revealed Himself in two ways. God has created all things in revealing natural revelation. He has created and sustained all things according to His spoken word or special revelation. Not only has he created the earth and commanded man to rule over it, but He has established His government over man and all things by speaking them into existence. Jesus is saying that the entire history of the earth is created by God by every word that comes out of His mouth. We see in the Psalms that all the words of the Bible are spoken in the context of the law, covenants, curses, statutes, decrees and promises. So we see that all of our knowledge and application must be guided and limited by every word of the Bible. The bible is all we need to live a life of godliness. We must understand that the natural desire in man is to question what is clearly taught in the Bible. The bible is the only book that contains words that create and order all things. It is the only book that contains the words that do not need explanation by any other source. The bible is self revelatory. One word that is written down in the bible is the spirit of all the words. The bible cannot be divided or added too. I like to say that the bible is Gods creative words that are spoken in laws, covenants, curses, statutes, decrees and promises. The six axioms contain all of Gods purposes and ends as He governs over all time. Every word of the bible is spoken in the context of the six axioms. The Psalmist is teaching that this world is Gods kingdom. God has spokes and governs all things by the axioms. But when man fell into sin he began to redefine Gods axioms. Man began to commit the sin of "rasha." They seek to overturn the order and symmetry of all created relationships because the experience the restless activity of fallen nature. But God has reestablished His governing authority over the earth by cursing all law breakers. Gods work of overturning the destructive efforts of the wicked is described by the Psalmist as Gods salvation. Because God has created all things for the purpose of His own pleasure and glory then He has established salvation by speaking the law, covenants , curses, etc so that we can save ourselves. The pronouncements lead Gods people to rejoice in the beauty and order of Gods creation. So the Psalmist ask the question that God rules through salvation then why are the wicked successful in their efforts to destroy Gods world and His elect? How can Gods people rejoice when the wicked happily abuse Gods elect? If God rules the world then why are the wicked so happy because they rule with impunity? But if God is sovereign then does He act without reason? Some people teach that because Gods ways are not understandable then we are left to accept that evil is normal on this earth. If the bible teaches that our hope of salvation is greater than the destruction that occurs because of sin then how can we live with that hope if the evils we experience are not explainable? If we were always under the threats of the wicked then how would we ever be able to experience rejoicing and confidence? The only way that the sovereignty of God could be effective in response to our experience of being opposed is if Gods curses were spoken in order to justify us in our struggles. In this Psalm we are given the pronouncements of the king in order to overcome all opposition. The Psalmist ties the pronouncements of creation to the pronouncements of recreation. (implanted the ear not hear? formed the eye not see?teaches man lack knowledge? knows the thoughts of man) In order for God to rule without opposition He must respond to the circumstances that are created by the opposition. If God is always just, loving, faithful, kind, and long suffering then He must act in swift judgment when the wicked oppose Him. And if God has created mankind for His own glory then He must act in a way that upholds His purposes. In other words if there where anything outside of God that changed the standard of His order and beauty then His purposes of bringing Himself glory would be overturned. If we could not understand or exercise power and authority in the creation covenant then we would not be enable to prove that God glorifies Himself. So God had to recreate the world through life and death pronouncements. God had to establish salvation to His people by life and death pronouncements. When we say that we are confident it is real in the sovereign expression of the blessing and cursing. AR |
