Nothing in this world can sever or cut them away from the soul’s core. Not even sin itself has the power to extinguish these desires; they remain intact despite our moral failings. Anyone who does not currently possess these sacred longings cannot cause them to cease, and even the most malicious and evil forces in the universe—such as devils—lack the ability to eradicate them entirely. Likewise, no righteous opposition or opposition rooted in goodness can eliminate these divine yearnings from a person’s heart. They are eternal and woven into the fabric of our existence, inseparable from our very nature. Consequently, every experience in life—no matter how seemingly insignificant or concealed—serves to highlight their importance and necessity. Even in the midst of sin and despair, these longings persist—they are unavoidable and unchangeable. A person may stumble repeatedly into every imaginable evil, lose hope of salvation, and feel overwhelmed by darkness, yet these sacred desires remain. They are woven into the very core of the soul and cannot be erased. These affections form the foundation of a person’s identity as a Christian, shaping their spiritual life. No external circumstance can remove their presence. A person cannot wish or desire for them to be different—they are an intrinsic part of who we are. All of our defenses and spiritual safeguards rest upon these hidden longings. We cannot turn back to a state of indifference, apathy, or despair because these longings continually draw us toward divine truth and love. Even when we look upon the sins of others and perceive them as more deserving of divine mercy, we cannot rid ourselves of these sacred desires. Because God's power and grace are unfailing, these longings are eternally secure and unshakable. They are the root of all hope and faith within a human life. No matter what suffering we endure or how dire our circumstances may be—whether we are filled with joy at the heights of life or sinking into despair—they remain. No elevation, no depth of darkness, no angelic being, no demonic force, and no distance in space or time can separate us from these divine longings. They are everlasting and unbreakable, woven into the very essence of our existence, ensuring that the divine desire for communion with God remains forever present within the human heart.
