God’s way is characterized by unmatched sovereign power—He rules with authority and exerts His will in a manner that defies any human attempt to overthrow or diminish Him. From eternity past, God has spoken everything into existence through His divine decree. His revelation to us comes in two primary forms: the natural revelation evident in His creation, and the special revelation found in His Word and actions. Through these means, we are given the knowledge necessary to understand who He is. Our ability to resist sin and turn away from evil depends entirely on the new life that He grants us—life bestowed through His supernatural call that reaches back into eternity. This divine call is the source of our spiritual renewal and strength, and it is not something we can produce or achieve by our own efforts to replace or rival God's role as Creator. If humans could generate ideas and righteousness solely from themselves, then resisting evil would be an impossible task. But instead, we rejoice in the truth that God is the ultimate origin of everything—everything that exists in the past, present, and future—working all things out for His glory and goodness. All true goodness ultimately stems from Him; it reflects His divine nature and is given to us freely by His grace. This grace is intended to humble us, leading us to depend entirely on Him rather than on ourselves, and to honor His supreme sovereignty forevermore. In light of all this, we are called to resist and overcome these corrupting influences. Our duty is to take control over our thoughts and actions, mortifying the sinful tendencies that threaten to enslave us. This is accomplished by immersing ourselves in the truth of God's Word, which exposes and refutes the lies of sin, and by relying on the Spirit’s power to transform us from within. We are reminded that evil begins in the mind—therefore, vigilance and discipline are essential. Even when outwardly silent or still, our hearts can be devising wickedness, revealing that the battle against sin is ongoing and internal. The lustful, greedy, hateful, and envious desires are ever-present, working to distort our reasoning and diminish our hope. Yet, in the midst of this ongoing struggle, we cling to the assurance that God's grace is sufficient, and that He has provided the means for us to stand firm. We acknowledge that true goodness and righteousness come solely from Him—an expression of His divine nature—freely given out of grace so that we might live in humble dependence on Him. Our goal is to continually honor His sovereignty, recognizing that all true life, truth, and goodness originate from Him alone. Ultimately, our spiritual journey is about aligning ourselves with God's divine purpose, resisting the temptations to create idols of our own desires, and instead submitting ourselves to His perfect will, trusting that His power is greater than any evil we encounter. We are called to be vigilant, to war against sin both in our hearts and in our actions, knowing that victory comes through His strength and grace, leading us to eternal life and perpetual worship of His holy name. When mankind fails to stand against temptation and sin, he inadvertently creates idols—false gods—born from his own selfish desires and ambitions. By doing so, he begins to resemble these very idols, adopting their traits and characteristics. The greed, hatred, lust, and envy that fuel these idols become the very qualities that man worships and seeks after. In this process, man loves what he has fashioned in his mind and heart, elevating his own creations above the true God. As a result, he increasingly becomes his own god—self-reliant, proud, and idolatrous. Every individual carries within himself the potential to fall into this form of self-worship, which leads to spiritual ruin. This perishing is not simply about rejecting divine authority but also about practicing sin through the worship of these self-made idols. Sin is far more than a mere mistake or lapse in judgment; it is a deep-rooted corruption that infects both the soul and the physical body of man. It resides at the very core of our being, constantly scheming and plotting to lead us astray. Despite this, believers are called to take dominion over sin— to capture every fleeting thought and make it obedient to Christ. Resistance is not optional but necessary: we must actively mortify, or put to death, sin within us. We do this through the power of God's Word, which refines and corrects our thinking, and by the Spirit’s enabling presence within us. Recognizing that the seed of evil begins within the mind itself, we understand that even in the quiet moments of the night, thoughts of wickedness can arise. Within the human heart dwell desires such as lust, greed, hatred, envy, and many other corrupt passions that cloud our reason and make our thoughts futile. These inner struggles demonstrate how pervasive and persistent sin is, constantly working against our efforts to live righteously.
