I identify as a Calvinist because of the striking contrast between God's unwavering faithfulness and my own inherent unfaithfulness. My belief in the doctrine of total depravity is firmly rooted in scripture, which clearly states that "there is no one good, no, not one." We enter this world in a state of spiritual death due to the fall of Adam, leaving us incapable of seeking God through our own strength or will. In this lifeless condition, it is through Christ that we are made alive. He lived a sinless life, died specifically for the elect, and now serves as our High Priest, interceding for us at the right hand of the Father. His redemptive work guarantees that those whom He has saved will be preserved until the end; the divine intention behind His sacrificial death on the cross for the elect is a purpose that cannot be thwarted. If we accept that this grace is indeed irresistible, it logically follows that He will also complete the sanctification process within us. This assurance means that we will persevere until the end because we are saved by grace alone and are continually sustained by that same grace throughout our spiritual journey. Before the very foundations of the world were laid, God predetermined to save certain individuals, which leads us to embrace the doctrine of unconditional election. This principle is vital because it highlights our inability to choose God on our own; rather, it is God who chooses us first. While we were still entrenched in our sins, Christ willingly laid down His life for us, securing our salvation at the cross. This monumental transaction is fully realized in time, affirming that the salvation we possess is entirely His doing. To fully grasp the deep and transformative influence of divine love on our desires, it is crucial that we elevate our thoughts toward the overwhelming beauty and majesty of God.
