A victim, by definition, is someone who has endured harm in various forms. When visualizing an individual, one might instinctively consider their physical characteristics, including the shade of their skin. The ability to define a saint implies a certain authority over that individual; however, it is crucial to acknowledge that divine renewal is a daily occurrence, continually offering the possibility of transformation and redemption. The psalmist skillfully utilizes sharp contrasts to convey the essence of God’s character. From genuine praise and worship spring forth blessings, while curses bring about deep sorrow, severed communication, and the threat of significant punishment. Throughout the psalms, these extremes are consistently placed side by side, with the psalmist asserting that true devotion will yield blessings, whereas transgressions will inevitably lead to despair and harsh consequences. Some theologians, however, adopt a perspective of God that lacks coherent reasoning, portraying Him as unpredictable and apathetic toward moral failings. They often overlook the application of divine curses to every moral action, choosing instead to concentrate on the Two Laws without considering the ramifications of immoral behavior. Their teachings imply that God does not desire individuals to suffer punishment for all their wrongdoings. Instead of dismissing the idea of divine curses altogether, it would be far more insightful to highlight the Two Laws in a way that recognizes the moral implications of one’s actions. A devout individual who attempts to create their own interpretations of faith can pose a greater danger than a reckless leader who bends laws to oppress others. In this light, divinity issues curses aimed at dismantling our flawed constructions, allowing each new day to begin untainted by prejudice. When I reflect on the pagan world and its inherent moral decay, I often find myself contemplating how I might act if afforded absolute freedom. Such reflections inevitably lead me back to the acknowledgment of the pervasive wickedness that exists in that realm. There is a deep sense of satisfaction in witnessing divine justice enacted upon those ancient foes who continue to perpetrate violence and cruelty in our world. It brings immense joy to contemplate their downfall, understanding that God’s justice is appropriately aligned with their wickedness. This is not merely an abstract notion but a deeply personal realization. God's declarations reveal His clarity and majesty as He orchestrates the cosmos in a manner that ultimately seeks harmony, a truth we grasp most profoundly through our understanding of moral order.
