The idea that growth is facilitated by the experience of pain is a fundamental concept utilized by many leaders to exert influence over their followers. This belief is a common thread in cults, where it is believed that individuals can become stronger and more compliant through suffering. In the Christian faith, adherents are encouraged to love others as they love themselves, despite the challenges posed by human limitations. Rather than focusing on enforcing obedience, believers are urged to prioritize seeking relief and trust in God's transformative power. Living in grace and extending grace to others is emphasized as the central principle in Christian practice, superseding any other rules or expectations.
This is the rationale behind Christ's declaration, "My yoke is easy and my burden light." The essence of Christian love is found in the act of alleviating the burdens of individuals. It does not involve changing people; rather, the responsibility lies with the Lord, not us. We turn to God because we recognize the sufficiency of His love and value ourselves enough to do so. God is not harsh or indifferent. Who would seek a God that constantly admonishes us for not changing? Is God unkind? He either reminds us of our sins and holds them against us until we repent, or He forgives and removes our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. There is no middle ground with God; the idea of a God in between is a construct of our own making. If we seek love, we seek a God who is steadfast and meets our needs for growth. He is either resolute in His will or He is not truly God. He either blesses His people or punishes them; there is no dual nature in God.
To fully understand the concept of divine grace, one must actively pursue a relationship with God during times of hardship and acknowledge their imperfections and transgressions. Despite societal criticism and scrutiny, turning to Christ is the antidote to despair. By embracing our struggles, we are able to witness the enduring love and loyalty of God, and seek solace and camaraderie within a community of fellow believers. Through Christ, one can find guaranteed triumph, as well as an unparalleled sense of tranquility and certainty.
