I do not believe that the Bible is suggesting that the validation of my repentance lies solely in my decision to repent. Rather, I interpret it to imply that forgiveness is granted based on one's genuine desire to be forgiven. I am always skeptical when individuals proudly proclaim that the sincerity of their desire determines the extent of their forgiveness. It is reminiscent of someone claiming to be weary of discussing certain matters, yet their actions serve as evidence of their love and commitment. This perspective appears to be rooted in a sense of arrogance. I do not believe that people express this sentiment with malicious intent, but rather, they are echoing commonly held religious beliefs.
