I would like to discuss the ongoing struggle we face with our sins and how we are ultimately overcome by them. It is important to remember that we have already been reconciled to God. When we responded to His call, we were deemed righteous in the divine court and our relationship with God was restored through the sacrifice of His Son. This reconciliation ensures a peaceful connection with God, distinct from the daily process of being reconciled. The latter involves our understanding of the various situations we encounter, determining guilt, and whether we must follow the same rule as God in reconciling others. While we are obligated to confess all our sins, we often fall short in doing so. Nevertheless, God has already forgiven all our sins, including our failure to confess them. Our forgiveness is not contingent upon our willingness to perform these actions. It is erroneous to believe that we can earn God's fellowship and friendship through such means.
Because we are in a state of reconciliation, every act of our reconciliation is initiated by God's free gift of empowering us to be reconciled. Our struggle with sin is experienced within the realm of grace, rather than being a means to earn grace, gain understanding of grace, or a justification for ending our battle with certain sins. Grace and forgiveness are the avenues through which we experience true freedom. We are constantly living in a state of freedom, as the hold of sin over us is no longer absolute. It is important to understand that we are no longer bound by the law as slaves, but rather empowered by the Spirit to overcome sin. Confession is prompted by our desire to confess, not the other way around. It is crucial not to allow those who would push us back under the law to diminish the work of God in Christ by attributing it to human power. If we feel the weight of God's hand upon us, we are actually standing on His hand as on a solid rock. I do not mean to come across as arrogant, but I have spent significant time reflecting on Christian living, which is why I emphasize that everything is rooted in grace and love.
