Tell the Lord how great and powerful He is. Give Him praise and honor. Worship Him in His holy place. The Lord's voice is strong and mighty, like thunder over the waters. His voice is powerful and majestic.
Living in Florida and memorizing this special poem made me feel happy when we had a big storm called a hurricane. I never really thought about how an event like a hurricane can show us how powerful God is. In the past, I would think about what it would be like to hear God's voice in a storm. Then one year, a really strong hurricane named Andrew came and I got to see firsthand just how powerful God's voice can be in a storm. This hurricane was so strong that it caused a lot of damage and made the city of Miami look like a place that had been through a war. Andrew was so strong that it even pulled up all the trees as it went by. I was in a house that had two floors when the strong winds started. Most people thought the hurricane would move north as it passed over Florida, but it stayed on a straight path south. I was really happy later on when I realized that God had helped us find a safe place to stay that was north of the storm. That meant we didn't get hit as hard by the second half of the storm like the people who were south of us did.
I remember when my friend Andrew was really noisy. I was listening to a person on the radio who was in a safe place during a big storm. They said the storm was going to be really bad. They talked to some people who said they were relying on God to keep them safe. The sound of the storm was so loud, it hurt my ears. I decided to think about a special poem called a Psalm to help me understand what was happening. I thought about it all night while the storm passed over us. As I thought, I heard the storm sounding like someone breathing. Can you imagine something being so powerful that it sounds like a person breathing? It started soft and then grew louder and stronger. Every time it got really strong, I would pray and hope that it wouldn't blow the roof off our house.
This Psalm talks about how powerful God is, like when he makes strong winds blow. It reminds me of a time when I felt scared during a big storm, but I learned to trust that God would keep me and my family safe. That experience made me believe in God even more, especially when I went through more storms.
After a big storm, I wanted to understand what a special Psalm meant when it said that after God sends strong winds, everything becomes really calm. I remember lying on my bed after the storm and being amazed at how quiet and peaceful everything was. All the noises we usually hear, like power lines buzzing and TVs playing, had stopped. It was a different kind of quietness that made me feel peaceful. It's like when I've had a busy day and then I finally rest, it feels like God's presence brings a special kind of quietness that makes all the other noises go away. It's the foundation of feeling safe and calm in our hearts.
