The reason why we struggle to understand the reality and extent of pain is because we are shielded from it by the blurred lines between sin, its effects, and justification. Pain affects every aspect of our lives and is a consequence of our fallen nature. The thoughts that cause us pain are unavoidable, as sin holds power over us and pain is its manifestation. When we acknowledge our sinful nature, we also recognize that pain has a significant influence on us. We are all vulnerable to experiencing great pain at any given moment, which can alter our thinking. However, we often lack the knowledge of how to find peace amidst pain. We live on the precipice of losing touch with reality and rational thinking when faced with pain and try to cope by using our minds irrationally. By acknowledging the impact of pain, we are thrust into a world of insecurity. This is why there are efforts to explain the nature, causes, and solutions to this problem. Humans naturally create systems to define a reality that helps alleviate pain, enabling them to think without being overwhelmed by it. The ultimate goal is to attain peace while disregarding the true nature of our sinful state. We exist in pain within the presence of God, as He is intimately aware of our sin and the physical sensations that accompany it. He sees every aspect of our bodies and the strain caused by pain. It is perplexing why we choose to ignore this reality, as it prevents us from addressing pain in a different, irrational manner. However, our inability to fully comprehend how our souls process pain and God's perspective on it hinders our understanding. If we accept this, we must also acknowledge our inability to create a process to overcome pain on our own, like a central nervous system sending messages to alleviate it. Instead, we must recognize that relief from pain is found in God, who sees all and knows all. He communicates with our pain, creating a new life within us, resembling His Son. To truly understand this new reality and its power within us, we need God to speak His word and renew us through His Spirit, even as we painfully acknowledge our natural state apart from Him and the stark contrast with our renewed state in Him.
