One particular situation that often leaves me feeling uncertain is the concept of doubt. This dilemma reminds us that ultimately, it is not about us. Despite crying out to God, we are faced with a massive burden of responsibility. However, the truth remains that we can never achieve anything substantial unless we recognize that our salvation started with Him and will reach its culmination through Him. This presents us with a paradox. We fervently seek Him until it becomes painful, but then we resist finding comfort because we strangely find solace in doubt rather than in Him. The state in which I feel most at ease is when I trust in my abilities and rely on my senses of sight, touch, and perception. However, this trust only leads to constant dissatisfaction. It breeds doubt. Trusting in myself is a miserable place to be. It's akin to being a spoiled child who refuses to be comforted because in order to find solace, I must acknowledge my need for salvation and recognize that I need to focus on Him, not myself. When faced with this crossroad, we grow weary, contemplating our own limitations and His immense power. We become overwhelmed by the grandeur of it all. If we could catch a glimpse of just how vast and powerful our God is, wouldn't we be compelled to reflect on our doubts and see how He prevents us from completely succumbing to them? Even when we doubt His goodness, He still watches over us. If only we could truly comprehend how our attitude in His presence is tainted with corruption, we would ponder and lament. Look at Him, there He is in our songs, in our contemplation, in the darkness of night, consoling us and granting us joys that surpass our physical senses. Yet, He even allows us to question our understanding of His gracious love towards us. Over time, we are left to reflect on what once was. We are blessed with memories so that we can contemplate the state of our hearts in the present and draw upon the loving recollections of the past. Through this contemplation, we come to realize that there is a timeless aspect to our thoughts, and in recognizing this reality, we understand that God perceives in a timeless realm. It is through this contemplation that I am prevented from completely surrendering to an unreal existence where God does not exist. God has always existed and always will. Understanding the magnitude and power of God brings me back to my senses at this crossroad, allowing me to regain my trust and confidence in Him rather than in myself.
