The placement and functioning of the planets, in their harmonious beauty and life-sustaining capabilities, exemplify God's promises. Since time immemorial, the consistent rising and setting of the sun has been a testament to God's upholding and sustaining of all things. The workings of the heavens align with the immutable laws of nature.Day after day, there is a continuous outpouring of speech, while night after night, knowledge is displayed. The act of "pouring forth sayings" can be seen as a form of prophesying, where intelligent information is shared about the work of the law, covenants, curses, statutes, promises, decrees, and blessings. In Psalm 119:73, the Psalmist acknowledges that it is through God's hands that he was created and formed, and he seeks understanding to learn and follow God's commands. The concept of "commands" here refers to the laws that God used to bring all things into existence. By understanding himself as a creation commanded into being, the Psalmist believes that he can comprehend God's commands. In verse 74, the Psalmist expresses his hope that those who fear God will rejoice upon seeing him, as he himself relies on God's word, which encompasses His laws. By speaking and adhering to these laws, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of their own identities, preferences, and place in the world. God's commands are seen as perfect and have the power to bring unity among all things. When we truly know God, we will find harmony and unity with like-minded individuals. As social beings, our happiness is closely tied to living in this unity.I acknowledge, O LORD, that your laws are inherently just, and through your unwavering faithfulness, you have allowed me to endure affliction. God's righteousness remains constant throughout all time, unaffected by external circumstances. Our suffering is a consequence of the fallen state of creation, unavoidable in this world. Every experience encountered by the Psalmist is ultimately orchestrated by God, as He controls all things. Despite our suffering, God's law is not nullified; instead, it is intertwined with blessings and curses. Our suffering serves a greater purpose, contributing to our ultimate good. Indeed, God's law illuminates the inherent corruption and sinful nature of the world. And it is through the pronouncement and adherence to divine law that such unity is achieved. While I, in turn, shall dedicate myself to contemplating your divine precepts. Hence, we rightfully condemn those who reject the law and embrace lawlessness.Those who possess knowledge of your statutes, I implore you to lend me your ear. I am not a novice in these matters.
