If there is one particular situation that consistently presents a challenge, it would be the concept of doubt. This crossroad serves as a reminder that ultimately, it is not about us. Despite our pleas to God, we are confronted with a significant amount of responsibility. However, the undeniable truth is that we can never achieve anything substantial unless we acknowledge that our salvation began with Him and will reach its culmination through Him. This presents a paradox: we diligently seek Him until it becomes painful, but then we refuse comfort because we strangely find solace in doubt rather than in Him. The state in which I am most comfortable is placing my trust in my abilities and relying on my senses of sight, touch, and feel. However, this trust ultimately leads to constant dissatisfaction. It leads to doubt. Trusting in myself is an incredibly miserable place to be. It is akin to being a spoiled child who rejects comfort because it necessitates recognizing the need for salvation and realizing that I need to focus on Him, not myself. When we reach this crossroad, we grow weary, contemplating our own limitations in comparison to His immense greatness and power. We become overwhelmed by the magnificence of it all. If only we could catch a glimpse of just how vast and mighty our God is, our doubts would fade away, and we would see how He continually prevents us from falling into complete disbelief. Doesn't He keep us even when we doubt His goodness? If only we could comprehend the corruption present in our attitude when we are in His presence, we would reflect and groan. Look at Him, there He is in our songs, in our meditations, in the stillness of the night, consoling us and granting us joys beyond our earthly senses. Yet, He even allows us to question our understanding of His gracious love for us. With time, we are left to reflect on the past. We are given memories so that we can contemplate the state of our hearts in the present and draw strength from the loving experiences of the past. Through this contemplation, we come to realize that there is a timeless aspect to our thoughts, and in recognizing this reality, we understand that God knows in a timeless manner. This contemplation prevents me from completely surrendering to a reality where God does not exist. God has always been and always will be. Understanding the vastness and power of God brings me back to my senses at this crossroad and encourages me to place my trust and confidence in Him rather than in myself.
