When society becomes cold and callous, everyone experiences rejection. I'm not a violent person, and I don't believe in guns, but this is why God destroyed the nations around Israel. This is why God sent His people whom He a made national covenanted into exile. Sometimes there is only one answer to societies that have become evil like Sodom and Gomorrah. In these cases, God must eradicate all evil men from the society. The Psalms state that God shortens the lives of earthly leaders in order to silence them. This is because if God is not recognized as the Almighty, then the whole earth would be too much for humankind to bear. The evils that surround us would amount to pain that would be unbearable to endure. "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" The Lord is our only hope, sitting on His throne. The Lord will respond to our cries for help. Christians who trust in their own strength are short sighted and foolish. We must trust in the Lord's strength and power if we want to be saved from the destruction that is coming. The problem with the world is that we cannot even trust in our own strength to fix it. Our arms are too short to account for all the injustices we are faced with. This is not really about money or power, but about trusting in the Sovereign Lord. It's about focusing on His purposes in all of this. We become softened as more people become their own gods. This is what we try to resist. We do not want to feel like God is just watching. We want to know that God, as our Father, is listening to us. We want to know that when we ask, He is listening to us. It's the Lord's battle. What does the picture of the Lord of Salvation look like? What is the significance of the Sovereign Lord? Our hope is that the Lord will listen to us and that we will see the salvation of our Lord. This is the picture in Israel's sojourn. The Lord went out in front of them as a Fire. They looked forward at the presence of their protector. What kind of relationship did they have in this redemptive sojourn? They commanded the Lord of glory to bring them to safety by destroying their enemies as He advanced in this pillar of light. Why was it so important for them to pray in this way? Because God has made Himself available to us through His promises to be a covenant-keeping God who has signed in His blood that He would provide for us and would be our refuge in times of trouble. Some of the most memorable moments I've had while praying have been when I've been spiritually challenged and experienced His power to conquer. We have a focus that cannot be thwarted. It's praying in this Psalmist way.
