One potential reason why some people may perceive God as being mean is because He created humans as social creatures and gave them the freedom to develop their own society. God communicates in a way that is intended to promote the health and well-being of individuals. If people in society want what is best for their fellow man, they will think and act in accordance with God's instructions. The law of love is to love others as we love ourselves. So in some ways, we not only act upon others with love, but we also receive love from others in return. God always loves people as He loves Himself. If people act outside of God's rules, they may begin to scheme against the peaceful rule of God, which can lead to the destruction of others' lives. Therefore, God may need to intervene in order to protect people from themselves. God has given people the ability to think and plan in their hearts so that they can carry out their purpose in society. If people think as God requires, they will always bless others with their gifts and talents. However, when people begin thinking only of themselves, they may start to plot against their neighbors. One of the key defining factors of a nation is the way in which its citizens interact with one another. If one person takes advantage of another, it can often lead to much more serious crimes, such as murder, rape, and theft. These crimes tend to target those members of society who are the most vulnerable, such as the poor, fatherless, and widows. As a result, when God responds to these crimes, His actions may be mistakenly seen as being too harsh and unforgiving. However, if God did not take any action, eventually there would be a clear divide between those with power and those without. Consequently, when you see God reacting to the crimes committed against His people, He is actually trying to bring peace and save the vulnerable.
