He teaches that the moral consequences of men are not only defiance against a perfectly holy God, but they are the reason that other men suffer on this earth. He turns the justice of God on its head, saying that a tooth for a tooth and eye for an eye is equivalent to justice. Instead of seeing God's holy standard as valuable, by the threat of punishment for lawbreakers, this is swept under the rug by his use of capital punishment. In other words, why not cheat your neighbor, why not steal from the poor and helpless? They have little to no deterrent to dissuade them from doing these things.Do the wicked always prosper, even though they cause pain and suffering in this life? Why would God tell the powerful and rich that they think they will get away with it in this life, but this Holy God is watching and He will avenge the poor? What is the threat? Annihilation? A simple shot in the arm and everything is just? The righteous have little hope if God does not punish the wicked, if He only allows the false scales of men who judge falsely to carry out the only justice for the crime. If God is truly just, then He should carry out the punishments in eternity as He has promised. However, if He is not just, then why would He warn the rulers of this earth and the judges to protect the poor and helpless? This system of punishment of justice would be meaningless if God does not back it up with His own standard of justice. Why would any ruler be subject to justice if God had no eternal standard? This would render man with no moral responsibility, and would also strip God of His glory and power to exercise His justice. We know that God will avenge the poor and oppressed. He will turn the scales upside down in eternity. He will bring evil rulers to stand before Him and pronounce eternal judgement. God through all eternity will be on the side of the poor and helpless, standing against those who oppress them in this life. He will forever show that the buck stops at His desk by standing for the poor and helpless who will be rewarded for their enduring the evils of these powerful men. If indeed God is not mocked on this side of heaven, He ten times more will not be mocked in eternity. He will overturn the scales of justice in eternity, bringing evil rulers to justice and sentencing them to eternal punishment. God always sides with the poor and helpless, standing against those who oppress them in this life, and showing that their suffering is ultimately worth His attention. If the wicked are not laughed at on earth, they will be infinitely more so in eternity.
