We who have been given a new will have been freed from our old will. We go from having fleeting desires to having our desires fulfilled. We are taught in scripture that we can desire what is real. We do not try to bring our desires into agreement with God's desires but we are made to desire what He desires. This is called being renewed by Spirit and word. So this is not a struggle like a war between two enemies for control but a process of sanctification which we focus on the gospel and our desires become His desires. Our desire put all of our confidence in God.How can we move from a lack of faith to the assurance that we are saved? We cannot on our own power. So we must rely on the fact that it is so. The gospel is not something accomplished by us. It is a message that we trust in that has the power to create a greater sense of power. Because the work in the gospel was already completed at the cross. The gospel is something that is only complete in God.When we realize that the power of the gospel comes from Christ and not from ourselves, we can more fully humble ourselves and give God the credit and glory He deserves. When we humble ourselves, we realize that we are unable to accomplish anything without relying on and doing it in the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord signifies our reliance on and dependence on the Lord for our own ability. We come to the Lord in His name.We can choose to do things our own way, or we can choose to do things God's way. When we do things our own way, we begin to retreat from God, but when we do things God's way, we experience the power of God. What does this experience look like? When we are confident that our desires are in line with what God wants for us, it gives us peace and purpose in life. We can be sure that we are following His plan for us when our desires are focused on doing what is right and good. This demonstrates that nobody and nothing else can satisfy the human need to know our purpose in life. We don't need to look to external sources for this information, but rather listen to the voice of our great Shepherd.
