Divine revelation allows us to seek God so that we can experience joy that is unspeakable and full of glory. This joy is like the ocean waves. It wells up in us and then washes over us. It is a divine joy. It is not a happiness over receiving something that we want, but rather a response that has grown in us as we have experienced the heights of joy in our meditation.Joy is a side effect of feeling satisfied with God. When we go to the word of God and meditate, the joy is what we receive from being nourished to the point where we enjoy the effects of satisfaction. It's like when we eat a nice dinner and sit down afterwards; we enjoy the rest because we're no longer hungry. Joy comes from this experience of the word of God illuminating us.We partake of the benefits of His promises to us when we feast at His table. Joy is not only something we receive after we have meditated, but rather it is the result of all the feasting we have experienced. It is a product of all the times we have been illuminated by His word, so that we begin to find spiritual pleasure in thinking. Our minds are a gift to us that allows us to experience joy unspeakable and full of glory. The scripture is the only source of getting lost in wonder and praise. This is why we have the Revelation of John. It is a description of heaven and the wonders that we will enjoy in the future. This description is all that we were made to long for. It saves us from ourselves to follow after the sorrows of this world. The Revelation describes layers of spiritual illumination that has a transportation quality in the illumination. When we hear the name of Christ, we instantly feel a connection to him. We feel complete joy when we experience the sense of being lost in this world and seeing pictures that are completely different from other parts of God's revelation. We are given a power from the other world that creates a sense of sorrow in this world. This is mixed with the many times we have experienced being fed on the word and it connects us to a world that is beyond our own imaginations. This joy that comes from anticipating future enlightenment is much more confident and is mixed with hope that is based on almost imaginary visions. It is a joy that comes from a sanctified imagination, so that we find a kind of illumination that is mixed with mystery and yet has these visions that are more beautiful, more transcendent. This gives us a sense of resting in the final determinations of God and finding a joy that is mixed with heavenly fear. We find in divine contemplation a world in our own minds that far outweighs all of the experiences in this world.
