This section discusses how the principles of God's grace are enacted within a community. The grace of God is free and able to help individuals persevere through any difficulties they may face in life. This grace is not primarily contentious. The teaching is mostly encouraging and strengthening, with very little confrontation. If you look at the love chapter in Corinthians, you will see that God's love is always gracious and demands that we form relationships in order to deal with each other in a gracious way. Even when the apostle is discussing discipline, it is always done with the full support of everyone. The function of gospel encouragement is to remind believers that nothing is so great as to be beyond God's power to forgive or redeem. Because the church belongs to God, anything done with a wrong spirit or in a habitual way will defile the spirit of grace. The law and grace are incompatible; the law brings condemnation and curse, while grace is something that only God can give in situations that seem impossible. This is why the doctrine of grace teaches us to deny ungodliness. If we stray from this doctrine, we could possibly have a community that practices these godly traits out of fear of consequences. But grace is much more powerful than that. Grace is what produces all the good in this world. That is why it is so important that we have a clear understanding of the doctrine of grace, and why we should not mix it with any other human teachings.Do not despise anyone because of their lack of understanding. Remember that you are a part of God's work, and use your intelligence and knowledge to help others.
