It seems to me that your intellectual philosophy is teaching something I would call 'jumping on the spiritual treadmill.' The problem is that we don't have the spiritual energy to stay on. Just watching you try to keep up with the constantly changing theological landscape is tiring me out a bit. I find it disheartening that you are so quickly abandoning the grace of God.If I depended on my own works as evidence of God's grace, then the grace would no longer be grace. If it were tied to a chain of works, either as the engine that pulls or the car that follows, it would no longer be grace, as we say in the south. Grace covers over sin. Sin is any lack of conformity to the law. Sin is not just an action, but it is a thought. Every breath of my life is generated by His grace and will end in His grace as I lay my crowns at Jesus' feet.Grace is the foundation of our lives, even in failure. This is because grace comes from God's abundant love and faithfulness. So we are able to love others based on God's love, rather than false assumptions. We work hard, not because we have to, but because we want to, and we are proud of our accomplishments because we know that God has given us the ability to succeed. Our problem is that we do not always remember to rely on God's love, and instead try to do everything on our own.It is not a problem if we have a sense of our own self-sufficiency, but rather our restlessness until we find God. Finding pride in our work and attributing it to God is an act of self-love. True affection for God is finding God all-sufficient in the working out of our lives and praising Him alone for that kind of power. When we have given up the idea of ourselves as being self-sufficient, then we will have worshiped a true image of God.Grace is the divine assistance or empowerment given to humans to achieve salvation. In other words, it is God's unmerited favor and mercy given to us. When we sin, God comes to us with love and forgiveness, which is an expression of grace. When we fall, God comes to us as one who upholds us, which is another expression of grace. When we pray, God comes to us with gifts that we could not have imagined, which is yet another expression of grace. When we long for Him and His will for us, He teaches us by His Spirit and word apart from works that we do, so that we learn as we are loved and not as we are corrected in anger. And when we are not able to lift our heads, He sustains us by His power, that Power that is life sustaining. If we had really depressing thoughts, He would encourage us by a spiritual communication so that we can persevere in prayer. And as we learn to persevere in this way, He adds His moral fiber to all of our lives. The paradigms I have described to you in this paragraph are the source of the power that we see at work in the world. These are the workings of His power in us.When we dwell in the mindset that we are trusting by faith and not by works, we will be infused with power from on high. We don't need to trust in our own working or level of obedience, but can simply rest in His love.
