I would like to discuss the concept of revival from a personal perspective. I understand that revival is not something that can be artificially induced by our efforts, but rather is something that the Spirit has authority over. We cannot make it happen ourselves, but we are subject to the Spirit's authority. However, there are many different experiences of revival, and we must remember that any time we are revived, it is because we are focusing on God as all-glorious. We are looking at the light of the glory of God that shines in the universe. The bright, glory-filled face of Jesus Christ fills us with a sense of wonder and assurance. This sense of wonder is caused by an inner knowing that we cannot fully understand or intellectualize. It is as if we are being led by something that is so wonderful and life-giving that it sets us free from our ordinary way of thinking and being.I have experienced this throughout my lifetime. In my personal experience, I go around praising God by speaking the Psalms. Not only do I praise God, but I call upon God throughout the day. So in my experience, there is an after-effect. In other words, there is the experience of my heart being enlarged by the communications of the love of God in the speaking. Then there is a sense of power that comes upon me. There is a sense of assurance that I cannot describe.I have experienced both lean times and times when God has blessed me abundantly, and I find that my faith is strengthened in both circumstances. In lean times, I am driven to seek God more fervently in order to obtain His blessing, while in times of abundance, I am filled with a sense of wonder that lasts for hours or even days. Either way, I am encouraged by God to seek Him more deeply. In the experience of revival, there is a sense of urgency that is difficult to describe. This is a desperation that drives us to pray with a vision of a special blessing as it was being conceived and then given birth. But within this whole fluctuation of the experience there is a sense of being baptized with wonder and praise.
