It is unclear to me whether you are speaking to me directly, but I suspect that you may be, given your comment about "this is exactly what Jesus taught." While we may have some different opinions, that doesn't bother me. If your post is simply a general statement, then please ignore this response. However, if your post is intended as a correction to mine, I would argue that the concept of "living in grace" is an abstraction with no concrete referent.Grace is not a magic shower that flows into our cranium which changes us for the better down here in the trenches. It protects us from our own general dung before God's apparent wrath and allows us re-entry as a species back into His kingdom.I hope that one day we will all be able to read the red letters in the Bible again. Together. All of them. Carefully. If we stop ignoring the variety and totality of all that Jesus taught, and meditate on his words.I believe that if people approached the study of religious texts with an open mind, instead of trying to force them to conform to their own beliefs, many disagreements and debates would disappear.Who was Jesus addressing His teachings to? What was the cultural context in Israel when He was alive on earth? Many people take these hard sayings of Jesus and place them into the category of Jesus being the covenant protector who is coming to condemn Israel for their rebellion against their side of the Old Testament covenant. When you focus on the red letters in the Old Testament worship book, you can see how skilled I am in understanding the covenant people of God. I have a keen eye for detail and I understand what the Jews believe in terms of their covenant with God. When God established the covenant of grace with Abram, He promised that Abram would have a seed like the stars of the heavens. This was a one-sided covenant. However, if you focus on the teachings of all the covenants, you can see how they are described in the worship book of Psalms.I have a deep understanding of the word usage in this book because I have memorized it and the book of Proverbs, and I have meditated on them for 30 years. I can see how the words are interrelated to the worship book, and I understand the context in which they were taught to the people. It is commonly understood that Christ's primary purpose in coming was as a deliverer, rather than a teacher. This is due to the fact that, when thinking in terms of the Greek context, we are often misinterpreting the narrative of Christ. Christ came to establish His kingdom that was over one nation. He established His authority over all governments, which in turn amplified the old testament curses and blessings, rather than replacing them. Christ was the old testament David, who pronounced curses and blessings in His life, in order to deliver His elect. The hard teaching that Christ delivered was meant to condemn the political and religious authorities for their abuses.
