The Psalmist complains about his sin when he is suffering a physical injury. Because the sin is like a dead organism that festers and spreads to the body. But its not life threatening because he has the new man who inoculates him by the curse of the law. Num 19 Whoever touches the dead body of anyone and fails to purify himself defiles the LORD's tabernacle. That person must be cut off from Israel. Because the water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on him, he is unclean; his uncleanness remains on him. You see the dead organism must be properly contained. We inoculate ourselves by the eternal curse of the divine law. Ps 97 7 All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols worship him, all you gods!" All who worship heathen idols are bitterly cursed. The dreadful curse of the law forcibly prevents us from being shamed Num.5 "Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has an infectious skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body." We must inoculate ourselves from the danger of the wicked curse since we cannot escape the world. The Psalmist illuminates the destructive power of the evil curse in the wicked will become like the dead idols. At that point he blesses the noble house of Israel 26 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you. The power of the curse. God piles up the uncleanness .22 8He must not eat anything found dead or torn by wild animals, and so become unclean through it. I am the LORD. Lev 21 He must not enter a place where there is a dead body. He must not make himself unclean, even for his father or mother," The Jewish culture. This is the appropriate metaphor of the apostle carefully explaining the considerable danger of moral sin and the compelling need to cauterize. The curse is inevitably seven times the offense. When the wicked redefines the law and abuse the righteous the judgement is seven times worse than their offense. Lev14 51 Then he is to take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet yarn and the live bird, dip them into the blood of the dead bird and the fresh water, and sprinkle the house seven times." The ceremonial purification of the noble house is the picture of intentionally killing sin by the eternal curse. Lev 11 31Of all those that move along the ground, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening."Unclean in us is the dead thing not being cauterized.1Tim 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron." The eternal curse of the moral law endure the fervent heat that cauterizes the enlightened conscience. The old man is alive by harshly condemning others and excusing ourselves. But when we are promptly made alive the eternal curse of the law cauterizes our sinful nature. Matt 16 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." The sole way we fail to deliver ourselves is through cursing ourselves by redefining Gods law. The sole way to redefine the law is lowering the standard so that the law maintains no power to curse. The moral law naturally becomes a standard bar that we can rise up to. The sole way we can intentionally lose our lives is to properly separate ourselves from that cursed desire of self-righteousness of the old man. The lifeless thing must be properly contained, so it does not contaminate the lively thing.
