The reformers typically teach that we are set apart for God and that we are sanctified. I am justified by Christ's mercy and grace. All of our meaningful change must be within the law. The discriminatory law is our critical judge, which means it will aggressively develop us into a good society. This is a difficult political problem. The law either helps us prove our innocence by representing our affirmative defense, or it is cursing us as a schoolmaster. Some reformers believe that all our focus should be on fighting our own "inward" sins, rather than on God's forgiveness. But why would God do this if he has forgiven us? It is a determined worm who wants to become a theologian. Political pragmatism inevitably leads to our tireless effort to overcome sin, as this is the best way to achieve our goals. The Psalmist's personality is very warm and accepting. He advises wicked to oppose themselves because they are wicked, and to the righteous support themselves because they are righteous. I have a lot of experience as a Psalmist, which has taught me how to fight aggressively with reformers who are encouraging people to focus on their inner selves. I ignored them and spoke with authority from the Psalms. The critical attitude of the saint is distorted by the forced teaching of the so-called internal opposition. The main benefit of unambiguously identifying in Christ's death is that it eliminates the struggle within us. The law must always stand up for what Christ has done. Our positive attitude is overcoming the obstacles in our way. Don't fight the phantom.
