God was like the emotional reaction of men, why would the psalmist make a declaration of God's moral authority by satisfactorily addressing the specific question: "Is it okay to turn around and quickly run away when we are?" inevitably faced with abuse? Curses as a satisfactory answer. God is not a distant and sovereign person. If God cannot decree our effective protection, why should we tease those exposed with a sovereign God who can either and cannot deliver us? This use of the terrible wrath of God in the Psalms is not an emotional suggestion, but a mechanical defense in authoritative statements.God is different from helpless men because he decrees terrible vengeance against the wicked in authoritative statements! He naturally revels in divine vengeance as a sufficient reason that we cannot take revenge.
