Psalm 138 1 I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart;before the "gods" I will sing your praise.2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things, your name and your word."The theme of this Psalm, he restrains his enemies in the pronouncements. Psalm 138 1 I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart;before the "gods" I will sing your praise.2 I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things, your name and your word."The Psalmist is exalting Gods covenant name and His law, curses, decrees, statutes and promises. He is drawing the line according to the authoritative pronouncements making it known to all the heathen kings of the earth, God will curse the violence! The humble king knowingly makes the highest challenge.
138 3When I called, you answered me;you made me bold and stouthearted.4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, O Lord, when they hear the words of your mouth.5 May they sing of the ways of the Lord, for the glory of the Lord is great." The king is accusing the gods of the earth. He is exalting the Governor of the earth who has the authority of life and death. In pronouncing the axioms we are transferring the authority to God in cursing and blessing. The humble control the nations by regulating the law in pronouncements.
138 3 When I called, you answered me;you made me bold and stouthearted. 6 Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly but the proud he knows from afar." Are we practicing false humility or genuine? Humility is not the absence of control but the exercise of control of law by the pronouncements.
138 6 Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar.7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life;you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me."The Psalmist is teaching the gospel represent the application of law, covenants, curses, decrees, statutes and promises. It is self-preserving. Gods salvation is fenced in by the eternal curses. God efficiently delivers us by quelling our organized opposition. We do not need mans strategy or modern weapons. We have a Godfather who fiercely protects us with life and death law.
138 8 The LORD will fulfill [his purpose] for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever - do not abandon the works of your hands." The Psalmist resolves the question of moral authority over the gods of the earth by the gospel. Gods purpose represent the unity of the gospel in efficiently delivering us by covenant sworn words. The same pronouncements of divine creation are given to us for faithful recreation. God unifies all necessary things by the divine unity of law and gospel.
