When you return the following week, Jesus greets you again and asks the same question: "Did I get your attention this time?" You honestly share that while it’s still not a perfect 10, you’ve made significant progress. You’ve learned more about Him, and your focus has improved, even if it’s not yet at the highest level. Then, feeling curious and seeking clarity, you ask Jesus, "What’s my problem? Why isn’t my attention reaching a 10 when I read Your Word?" Jesus responds with gentle patience, "It’s because you tend to focus mainly on your head—on facts and information. But when you talk to Me, there’s not much for Me to respond to." He explains that while understanding facts is important—helping you know how to communicate with Him—it’s not the whole picture. The reason He gave you His Word isn’t just for gaining knowledge; it’s for building a relationship and growing closer in love and trust. He assures you that His desire is to draw you into deeper intimacy, and that His Spirit will teach you everything you need to know along the way. His Spirit will help you discern truth, keep you from deception, and guide your heart toward what truly matters. Jesus concludes by saying that next time you meet, He won’t need to ask if He has your attention because it will be obvious—your focus and love for Him will be evident in your words, your heart, and your actions. With a comforting smile, He promises that He will be attentive to you every step of the way, and that your efforts to seek Him will never go unnoticed. Together, you will grow in understanding, and your relationship will deepen as you learn to give Him your whole heart and mind. When you come back for your next session, Jesus greets you with a warm smile and asks if you've finished that assignment He recommended. As He continues to teach, He gently shifts the conversation and asks a thought-provoking question: "When you read your Bible, do I have your full attention?" You pause for a moment, reflecting honestly, and respond, "Well, Jesus, I’ve learned a lot about You, but if I had to rate my attention on a scale from 1 to 10, I’d say it’s probably around a 5." Jesus listens attentively, His kindness evident in His eyes, and replies softly, "That’s okay." You then add, "But I really want to understand everything You’re telling me, so I can give You my full attention—like a 10." Inspired by His encouragement, you make a decision to put more effort into your Bible study at home. You promise yourself to look up words you don’t understand, cross-reference verses, and meditate more deeply, trusting that when you meet again, your focus and attention will have grown stronger. Jesus reassures you that there’s no need for complicated language or hidden meanings in the Scriptures. Everything you need to comprehend His Word is right there, accessible to those who seek it. He reminds you that His Spirit is always with you, helping you understand and guiding your heart. Then, with a gentle smile, He offers to teach you how to truly capture His attention. He invites you to learn from His prayer book—His Word—where all the attention you desire can be found. He points out that the Psalms are especially helpful for prayer and worship because they are full of heartfelt expressions and honest conversations with God. By focusing on the Psalms, He explains, you can learn how to get closer to Him, and in doing so, you’ll begin to see what a perfect 10 looks like in your spiritual focus and devotion.
