God confounds human wisdom so that we may recognize the foolishness inherent in mankind’s own understanding. It is His divine decree that only He can accomplish the works of God, for humans are utterly powerless to conceive a thought or idea without God's prior will and inspiration guiding their minds. This truth explains why our efforts to provoke a response—whether in prayer, action, or persuasion—often fall short; these responses ripple across the vast and unpredictable ocean of creation, their course uncertain and inscrutable, not always aligning with what we believe to be right or just. If we attempt to shape the course of the world solely through human effort, we must confront a difficult question: what portion of any success truly belongs to man, and how much is ultimately directed by divine sovereignty and purpose? We are wise to approach human endeavors with suspicion and humility, recognizing that every story has two sides—each limited in its capacity to see the full truth and circumstances. Every individual tends to become an idol unto himself, judging worth and value according to his own shallow measures and limited perspective. Each person constructs a life in which he seeks to surpass his neighbor, yet all these pursuits are built upon false scales, flawed and incomplete. Only God is the true Judge; before Him, all human pretensions and self-righteousness fall silent and are exposed as meaningless. We are at our best when we humbly stand before the Most Holy, Most Powerful, and Most Free God—who alone exercises His will without restraint or limitation. This understanding is why every human story, in its rawest and most unfiltered form, remains incomplete—lacking the divine perspective necessary for ultimate truth. Only God writes the true narrative of history and creation, for one day, all His elect will stand before Him, and the deeds wrought in flesh and blood will be laid bare before His righteous judgment. Even those works that seem noble or righteous in our eyes will be consumed by the fire of His judgment; yet, through His mercy, the soul will be saved “so as by fire.” For only God is the ultimate Judge of what is truly good and right. Our prayer should be that our focus shifts away from ourselves and our fleeting achievements, and instead rests on God's love—an love greater than our own life. All too often, men create idols—false promises of prosperity or security—that are nothing but deathly illusions. Only God, the Creator of all that is good, is gracious and faithful; only He has promised to bless us. May He work through us for the blessing of others, so that His love might be made manifest among His children. We are called to seek the One who alone is worthy of our praise—the Creator who delights in giving life to dependent creatures. He opens His hand and satisfies every longing; His voice is powerful enough to shake mountains and still the earth itself. Who has known the mind of God? Who has given Him counsel? Just as He punishes nations, surely He will also defend and care for His children. If all human beings are mortal and their thoughts fleeting, then their fleeting ambitions are an abomination to the Holy One. Can man, with his corrupted notions and false idols, accomplish anything truly good? No—his thoughts are empty and shallow, mere idols that deceive and lead astray.
