From this perspective, our experience of life is never truly static or fixed. Just as the hands of a clock are in constant motion, continuously marking the passage of time, so are we caught in an ongoing dance of activity and passivity. We are, at once, entirely passive and entirely active—each state serving its purpose within the divine order. If we were not both passive and active, the sovereignty of God would be compromised; His supreme authority might be called into question. Our passivity stems from our dependence; as creatures, we rely wholly on the Creator for our existence, sustenance, and purpose. Yet, in contrast, God Himself is entirely independent; He needs nothing from us. Our misunderstanding of reality often arises from a limited knowledge of God's mind, a failure to truly reflect upon ourselves within His creation, and an inability to see the divine harmony in the interplay of activity and passivity. Our struggles and challenges often originate from our failure to appreciate the significance of these different levels of trials, or even the smallest moments in our experience. Each moment, each circumstance, holds within it the potential for divine work—an opportunity for God's power to will and to act within us. This divine activity manifests through our participation in both passivity and activity, working in harmony with the divine order that governs all things. Understanding this intricate balance allows us to see our lives not as random or meaningless but as part of a divine tapestry, in which every thread has its purpose. By embracing the interplay of active effort and receptive surrender, we can grow closer to understanding God's presence and His work within us, leading to a more meaningful, purposeful life rooted in divine truth. By recognizing our absolute dependence on God, our awareness of ourselves and our circumstances becomes clearer and sharper. This recognition enables us to engage in authentic self-reflection, understanding our place within the divine order more fully. When we grasp that God can elevate us beyond our natural limitations—lifting us into the spiritual realm—we begin to see that this is possible precisely because we are engaging with the supernatural. It is through a deeper understanding of these two fundamental states—total passivity in dependence on Him and total activity in participating with His divine will—that we can attain a more profound vision of the universe. Such a universe is centered on Christ, where divine action is intricately woven into every aspect of existence, from the grand cosmos to the smallest details of our daily lives.
