From a legalistic perspective, humanity is seen as guilty and inherently lacking righteousness before God. However, God’s grace surpasses both the strict demands of the law and the condemnation that results from sin. Instead of experiencing the harsh judgment that the law may impose, believers are invited into a realm of reassurance and comfort that grace provides. As I reflect on my own life, I find myself asking: Do I observe the fruits of the Holy Spirit evident in my actions? Are my motives driven by the divine nature that God has planted within me, or are they merely serving selfish desires? While the law may judge me according to my deeds, it is grace that offers healing and restoration during this process of self-examination. As I engage with Scripture and feel sincere remorse for my shortcomings, I discover genuine security in the presence of divine grace. This sense of security and peace is rooted in my union with Christ, which sustains and affirmes my walk of faith. When we talk about assurance, we are addressing a core aspect of spiritual awareness and consciousness. It is possible for an individual to be misled into believing that they possess a saving understanding of faith, even when there is no clear, observable evidence of the Holy Spirit’s transformative work in their life. In other words, relying solely on our senses and perceptions can sometimes cause us to be mistaken about our spiritual condition. Because of this, it’s essential that self-examination be guided by divine standards—criteria established by God—to accurately identify genuine signs of new spiritual life. True assurance of salvation is found through a process of inner reflection and honest self-assessment, which helps deepen one’s understanding of their true spiritual state. Ultimately, this assurance is grounded in the grace of God, which enables believers to have confidence in their salvation, even amid doubts or struggles.
