From our viewpoint, we take solace in the sense of security that arises from the belief that God’s divine presence envelops all aspects of existence. Instead of adopting a formal stance, we tend to expect God to take decisive action on our behalf when we face difficulties. However, our limited understanding often leads us to mistakenly assume that God will eliminate every potential threat from our lives. In reality, there exists a genuine risk that we might fall prey to the harmful actions of malevolent individuals or yield to the corruption that permeates both our inner selves and the world around us. This line of thinking can unintentionally convey the idea that an omnipotent God, who holds ultimate authority, does not necessitate the cultivation of a true, meaningful relationship with Him. We may find ourselves seeking comfort in keeping a certain distance from God, believing it to be more prudent to avoid complicating our situations by inviting Him into them. Whenever we celebrate our faith in God, especially in the face of life's tribulations, we lift our gaze to behold the radiant brilliance of Christ’s eternal glory. I like to characterize this transformative experience as embarking on a quest for the unknown. Through our sincere engagement with this divine mystery, we discover a sense of comfort in the presence of the divine. Yet, encountering this mystery also compels us to confront our profound struggles with God, often manifesting as expressions of grief and sorrow. By articulating the burdens we carry—shaped by the unyielding pressures and challenges of life—we liberate ourselves from the role of being the ultimate judge of our circumstances. To genuinely connect with the essence of this mystery, we must skillfully navigate the fragile balance between feelings of gratitude for the blessings we have and the grief we harbor for the losses and struggles we face.
