Thus, God has called us to live by faith, cultivating a sense of unity even in the face of unmet obligations within the covenant. In every societal context, God's governance operates through secondary means, yet this divine oversight persists despite humanity's inability to fully uphold the covenant. God examines the innermost thoughts and motivations of individuals as they endeavor to uphold the covenant, depending on a righteousness that surpasses the ordinary or societal benchmarks of justice. Therefore, how an individual perceives their relationship with Christ becomes a powerful indicator of their faithfulness to the covenant, even if, within a community filled with covenant violators, they might be viewed as lacking in their commitment. If sin were absent, there would be no need for Christ; however, without Christ, the hope for genuine covenant faithfulness would be severely diminished. In this light, our ability to remain faithful is never solely a result of our own strengths or merits, but is instead a reflection of our reliance on God, particularly since we so often fall short of acting in accordance with love as required by the covenant. For a community of covenant keepers to exist in its ideal form, there must be a universal commitment to the commandment of loving God with all one’s heart, mind, and strength—an obligation that no single individual has entirely fulfilled. Thus, we must depend on the various provisions of grace available within our community, which serve to protect individuals from being judged by fellow covenant breakers. This grace allows us to navigate our shared journey in faith, acknowledging our shortcomings while embracing the love that binds us together in the covenant relationship established by God. The covenant that God has established with His people is, at its core, a profound expression of love. God's will is absolute and functions independently of human agreement; He does not need the approval of humanity to carry out His divine plans. In the context of human relationships, the fulfillment of covenantal responsibilities is ultimately guided by God's steadfast faithfulness rather than the desires or decisions of individuals. The truth is that humanity repeatedly falls short when it comes to maintaining the positive elements of obedience within the covenant community, as many individuals often lack the sincere motivation to honor the covenant out of love. In response to this reality, God has put in place specific guidelines within the covenant designed to ease the burdens that individuals may feel, taking into account the varied gifts and abilities that different people possess. This structure enables God's faithfulness to shine through, as He oversees the myriad human weaknesses that hinder adherence to the commandments of love through His perfect wisdom.
