The challenge we encounter when attempting to motivate people to change lies in our tendency to focus on simply halting sinful behaviors rather than truly repenting and seeking healing through Jesus. While having accountability partners can be helpful, the root problem often stems from a lack of comprehension regarding sin and how to receive the grace necessary to overcome it. Many individuals participating in 12-step programs may lack solid doctrinal instruction, resulting in a spiritual void that remains unfulfilled. Additionally, there may be underlying psychological  issues that require attention, potentially necessitating medication. It is crucial to address both the spiritual and physical components of a person's struggles in order to facilitate genuine and enduring transformation.

I strongly advocate for the combination of medication and studying reformed theology in an individual. The concept of God's free grace holds a profound significance, especially when understood and embraced by a community of individuals. The challenges presented by societal pressures and interpersonal relationships are formidable and can be particularly daunting for individuals newly exploring their faith. Our current societal landscape is fraught with malevolence, not only in terms of temptations, but also in the mistreatment of individuals by others. It often feels like a spiritual warfare. Despite our efforts to share the message of Christ and His grace in a gentle manner, the pervasive effects of evil are evident across various age groups. The corruption of society gives rise to individuals skilled in deception and manipulation, leaving the most vulnerable members of society to bear the brunt of their actions. As seasoned believers, it is incumbent upon us to offer support and encouragement to those grappling with these challenges through prayer, meeting their needs, and demonstrating empathy and compassion in both their triumphs and tribulations.
