In the Psalms, there is a contemplation on the apparent success and influence of the wicked, who instill fear and destruction. The speaker questions the sustainability of the wicked's joy, recognizing that their actions often lead to harm. Those in positions of power often utilize the wicked to carry out their malevolent acts, thereby bolstering their own authority and following. The arrogant and boastful nature of evildoers is employed to assert their dominance and control over others. This manipulation of power mirrors a hostile takeover of a kingdom, where truth is distorted and falsehoods are spread. The oppressors demand songs of happiness from the oppressed, thereby mocking their suffering and exacerbating their pain. The pleas for justice and retribution against those who harm the vulnerable are recurrent themes in the Psalms, underscoring the notion that God's laws are intended to safeguard those who are unable to safeguard themselves.
