The righteousness of Christ is solely His own, credited to us without it being our own inherent righteousness. It is not based on our obedience, but rather on Christ's obedience being attributed to us. If we were to believe that Christ's righteousness makes our own obedience pleasing to God, we would be mistakenly comparing our imperfect obedience to His perfect obedience. We are unable to meet the standard of Christ's obedience, so we must recognize our own sinful nature and rely on faith for justification, rather than our own works or adherence to the law. Our righteousness is declared through imputation, as we are not inherently righteous enough to please God on our own. God sees us as completely righteous through the lens of Christ.
