The covenant established by God with His people is a covenant rooted in love. It is important to recognize that God always acts according to His own will and does not require a democratic vote to accomplish His plans. Even in human societies, the fulfillment of covenant obligations is ultimately determined by God's faithfulness, rather than the willingness of individuals. It is worth noting that humans often fail to meet God's requirements within society, as the benefits of obedience are not achieved solely through individual effort. To address this, God included specific stipulations in the covenant, allowing individuals to focus on utilizing their unique gifts without being burdened by the same requirements as others. This highlights God's faithfulness in managing various aspects of human shortcomings within the framework of love. Therefore, God has chosen for us to live by faith, fostering a unified purpose despite our inability to fully meet the positive requirements of the covenant.
Within every society, God governs through these intermediary causes, even though His rule persists in spite of mankind's unfulfilled commitment to the covenant. God evaluates the intentions of the heart and the inclination to fulfill the covenant, relying on a righteousness that is not inherent or customary within human justice. Hence, the manner in which an individual perceives their personal connection to Christ serves as an indication of their fidelity to the covenant, despite being perceived as lacking in faithfulness within a community that breaks the covenant. If sin did not exist, the need for Christ would cease to exist as well. Without Christ, the prospect of covenant faithfulness would be devoid of hope. Consequently, our faithfulness is never achieved solely through our own capabilities; we are designed to rely on God as we fall short of meeting the requirements out of love. For a flawless community of covenant keepers to exist, all individuals must fulfill the obligation to love God with their entirety of their being. However, no individual has ever fulfilled these obligations entirely. Therefore, we depend on the various provisions of grace within the community to prevent individuals from passing judgment on one another as covenant breakers.
